Lucknow. On Wednesday, MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, inaugurated the annual exhibition 'Riyasat' organized by the Craft Council of Uttar Pradesh at Lalit Kala Academy. He graced the event as the chief guest and took the opportunity to explore the exhibition, visit various stalls showcasing handcrafted items, and engage in conversations with all the artisans, thereby boosting their enthusiasm.
This exhibition, which will run for seven days, features skilled artisans from various 16 states of India, showcasing their unique and exquisite creations. These include Maheshwari-Chanderi fabric, Ajrakh, Banarasi, Bhagalpuri, Chikan embroidery, Kalamkari, Hyderabadi pearls, Gujarat handloom, footwear, Nagaland tribal suits, Rajasthani shawls, and home décor, as well as Tharu art.
Addressing the artisans, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh stated that handicrafts bear witness to the rich culture and glorious history of the country. Artisans are the torchbearers of our culture and a source of pride for the nation, with both central and state governments committed to their upliftment. As a result, the export of handcrafted goods has increased by 30% compared to the previous year, reaching 36,000 crores. Imitation jewelry worth 1200 crores and Bhadohi carpets worth over 10,000 crores are being exported.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh praised the artisans for preserving traditional craft skills and encouraging them on the global stage. He shared that there are more than 3,000 art forms in India, engaging over 70 million people, with women contributing 56%. Recently, at the G-20 summit held in India, guests from abroad were presented with handcrafted items as gifts. PM Modi presented silk garments, a box made of Sheesham wood, and Kannauj perfume. Earlier, when Barack Obama visited India, he was gifted Rogan painting, a famous art form from Gujarat, which has been nurtured by the same family for eight generations The tradition of guru-shishya teacher-student in craftsmanship is a significant example where artisans pass down their art to future generations, ensuring its continuity
